Kathmandu, November 29: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has signed a contract for the retrofitting of historic Keshar Mahal in Kantipath which was badly damaged in the April 2015 earthquake.
The Central Level Project Implementation Unit (CLPIU-Building) of the NRA signed a contract with ZCGI-Khani Joint Venture to retrofit Keshar Mahal amidst a function today.
Director of the CLPIU-Building Nabaraj Pyakurel and Ratna Gautam of the contracting company signed the contract worth Rs. 672.46 million.
Pyakurel said the historic Keshar Mahal will be restored to its original form by making it earthquake-resilient.
Gautam of the contracting company expressed his commitment to complete the retrofitting work on time and informed that the work will begin in a week.
John Sandy Associates Pvt. Ltd., SW Nepal Pvt. Ltd. and Pyramid Design Associates Pvt. Ltd. have been selected as the consultants.
The neo-classical building of Keshar Mahal was built by Keshar Shumsher, son of Chandra Shumsher, in 1895. The Mahal housed a popular library and other offices before the April 2015 earthquake.
